Second Narrows Bridge Collapse, Tuesday 17 June 1958
Fifty-four years ago today, the new bridge being built across the Second Narrows on Burrard Inlet collapsed, sending 79 workers plunging 175 feet into the water. Eighteen people died instantly and the death of a diver looking looking for bodies raised the death toll to 19, making it the largest number of worker fatalities in an industrial accident in BC.
